ABOUT CAMAB WOMEN
An organisation of blind women, led by blind women
CAMAB Women is the Cameroonian Association for Blind Women. Our statutes reserve the presidency for a woman with visual impairment and require that at least 80% of the board be women at all times. We were founded in 2019 and registered by the State in 2021.

OUR STORY
A record, year by year
Learning how a blind woman votes unaided
In October we travelled to Ghana, at our own cost, to study the tactile ballot jacket with Dr Peter Obeng of the Ghana Union of the Blind.
In July our president chaired the AFUB women's committee conference in Nairobi, and in December we raised implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty in Cairo.
Training for financial autonomy
On 5 July, eleven women with visual impairment were trained in rope weaving for livestock rearing and in kernel oil production, at Bamenda.
The same year took us to ELECAM's stakeholder consultations at Mont Febe and to the African Union's youth commission on peace and security.
Inclusive National Day activities, Yaounde VII
We ran inclusive National Day activities in Yaounde VII: a goalball tournament opened by the council, and an educational discussion on disability rights with the traditional authority and Social Affairs.
The third strand was a drive to help eligible people with disabilities register on Cameroon’s electoral roll.

Who is CAMAB Women for?
Blind and partially sighted women in Cameroon. Our statutes reserve the presidency for a woman with visual impairment, and require that at least 80% of the board be women at all times.
Is CAMAB Women a registered organisation?
Yes. We were registered on 26 November 2021 by the Senior Divisional Officer for Mfoundi, receipt N° 00000647, under law n° 90/053 of 19 December 1990. It is a state-issued instrument you can verify independently.
What does the CAMAB Centre do?
It teaches Braille literacy and handicrafts at Nkolbisson. It exists partly as a safeguarding measure, so that blind women can continue their education without the harassment reported in mainstream centres.
